What are the advantages and disadvantages of email over other forms of communication? Think about this in terms of:
– Financial (does it save them money? What costs are involved?)
– Social (does it help people to communicate? Does it limit how people communicate?)
– Environmental (what are the environmental costs of using email? What are the environmental benefits?)

this is my business studies question to include in my evaluation, but i dunno what to write.. any suggestions would be brilliant, thankyou (:

You need to be quite critical in your thinking - e-mails are not free- you have to buy a computer, get a contract with an ISP etc etc.

Social - it is probably easier than the old fashioned way - but you are hardly likely to press a blliet doux from a computer in your scrapbook. They have a distinct advantage over phone calls in that you have a record which can be very useful. (Great if you are deaf too).

Environmental - all these computer servers laser printers etc use power extremely inefficiently and noxious chemicals - and offices get though far more paper these days than they ever used to,

I met the chap who saved the Sydney Olympics which was going off course. His solution - ban e-mails. People had to get on and communicate directly and get the job done. There would seem to be a lesson to be learnt there.

I believe it has its advantages and idsadvantages. Such as its unhealthy for humans to communicate over the net so much and they are way to reliant on technology to do things for them.

Along iwht television, computers, and such they create a false intimacy youre doing that with email. People should communicate in person when they can. Its just not the same, (dating online, having "friends" online, talking online.. also false intimacy.

Its also very helpful in ways to stay in touch with someone far away. And its a great tool in business but people often forget how to do things the old fashioned way. Like i said people are WAY to relaint on technology these days.

EX: A girl asked if the guy she likes doesnt like her back bc he hasnt emailed her for 2 days... how pathetic.

You might also think of it in terms of lack of feedback when compared to conversation, esp face to face. Non verbal communication carries about 80 odd% of a conversation; on an email there is none.

Its a daft question, you need to think about it. Does email cost money, does it have any waste.

Its free.

No postage costs.

No paper waste.

Instant.
