A tangent line passes through the given point and has a slope equal to the derivative at that point.
y= x^4 - 2x + (5-x)^(3/2)
Use the power rule on each term to find the derivative.
On the last term you will also need the chain rule.
dy/dx = 4x^3 - 2 - 3/2 (5-x)^(1/2)
Evaluate at x = 1
dy/dx (1) = -1
Write the equation of a line with slope -1 through the point (1,7).
