I'm preparing to the exam in English as a foreign language on my own and have to do the written tasks. One of them is to write an information sheet.
Task.
Your school wants to help its students prepare themselves better for job interviews by helping them to become more aware of things to do or not to do to make a good first impression.
The Principal has asked you to draw up an information sheet that he can display on the careers notice board which will help students.
Write your information sheet in 220-250 words.
Discuss ideas that can include in the sheet and make notes under these headings:
Appearance
Manner
Behaviour
Dos and Don’ts
Could you check my draft of the information sheet, leaving any comments on grammar, style, appropriacy of some words and if it doesn't sound in English? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Successful interview as a key to your career
Probably, everybody of you consider a job interview like a difficult step to your future career. But you don’t need to be worried about it a lot. You should know some things which can influence on the result of your interview.
Appearance
Overdressed candidate can give a wrong impression at the interview. The personnel officer will think that you are trying to conceal your personality and competency. Put on accurate and not bright clothes for the interview. Classical black and white colors of clothes will be ideal way of showing yourself like a serious and determinated person.
Behaviour
Be calm and avoid being nervous! Nervous candidate can seem to be unconfident. So it may reduce your chances to be taken to the position. Try to keep eye contact with an interviewer despite your embarrassment. Eye in eye talking will assure in your sincereness.
Manner
Open and friendly manner can become the main factor of your success at the interview. Genuine smile will, undoubtedly, stress positive sides of your character.
Dos and Don’ts
• Be active and show yourself like an optimist
• Give clear and confident answers
• Ask questions to the personnel manager. It will confirm that you are really interested in getting this position
• Avoid talking negative sides of your previous experience (if you had it) or your studies. Be neutral in your attitudes.
• Don’t be too self-assured! Overestimated candidate will not be able to sound natural without real achievements and clear working motivation.
We hope that our advices will be helpful for you to take the job interview. Remember that your career depends on the successful interview.
