I am doing a debate on whether or not school uniforms should be worn in schools. I am arguing in the affirmative(pro)
I have to make an opening statement. Can someone please help me come up wit a short, captivating opening statement that will hopefully persuade my audience or at least capture their attention? Thanks!!.

The use of school uniforms can yield huge benefits to the school and to the families. It would save money, eliminate the battle of students to "one-up" each other regarding wearing the latest and most expensive attire, and allow students to not be distracted by the obvious temptation to fit in with the elite crowd.

There are several pros to uniforms in schools. Pick one or two that you can argue most effectively and state them (confidently). An opening statement will not convince your audience singlehandedly, though. Consider your audience (are they students? Teachers? Parents? Random people?) and target your points to that audience. For example, if you're speaking to students, you can talk about how uniforms save money, reduce bullying, instill school pride, etc.

Start off with your proposition/thesis: School uniforms should be required in school.

Then speak 2or 3 sentences but don't give all your ammunition in the opening as is done in the post above mine.

Do research; don't just give your opinion..
