Which essay topic would you choose?

Hey :)

We have been told we have to write a 2000- 5000 word research essay at school :( we got given 31 topics and i've narrowed it down to 7 , which are;

1) Essay Topic 1
Account for the current economic crisis in Greece, examining, too, its impact on the Euro and on Euro zone countries. Suggest possible solutions to this situation. What stumbling blocks would be likely to be encountered?

2) Essay Topic 2
Words have set whole nations in motion…Give me the right word and the right accent and I will move the world. (Joseph Conrad)
Consider this comment about the power of the word in the light of specific examples from the present or from any period of history.

3) Essay Topic 3
Does history prove democracy to be the best form of government? Consider the following:
• Origins of democracy in Ancient Greece- what made it work?
• How important is the vox populi in modern democracies? What restrictions are there?
• How essential is democracy to good and efficient decision making? Is it, perhaps, a hindrance to efficiency?
• Is democracy the best form of government for third World countries? If not, then what alternatives would be better?
Use suitable examples to substantiate your points of view.

4) Essay Topic 4
"In the face of extraordinary advances in the prevention and treatment of human diseases, devastating illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and diseases of the nervous system, such as Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease, continue to deprive people of health, independence, and well-being. Recently, techniques have been developed for the in vitro culture of stem cells, providing unprecedented opportunities for studying and understanding human embryology... Although it is impossible to predict the outcomes, scientists and the public will gain immense new knowledge in the biology of human development that will likely hold remarkable potential for therapies and cures."

If this research is supposed to help people to overcome diseases, why is there so much controversy surrounding it? Construct a well-argued response to this question.

5) Essay Topic 5
It is said that through every experience we have in the arts, whether via a novel, poem, movie, song, dance or painting, we recognise something that inspires us or “speaks” to us to answer some of the many questions we may have. The messages of the author/ poet/ musician/ artist may range from meaningful to shocking to thought-provoking to comforting. At different times, different responses may be elicited. Stages of one’s life may be linked to a text/piece of music or art or dance that can “capture” the stages of one’s development.
This essay calls for analysis of the extent to which you may have found you have responded to specific art forms in your own life and the nature of personal growth you attribute to these experiences. Texts (or extracts thereof) to which you refer need to be provided where appropriate in an addendum. If you refer to other art forms, do your best to make the material available to the reader.

6)Essay Topic 17
The key element in tragedy is that heroes and heroines are destroyed by that which appears to be their greatest strength. (Robert Shea)
Discuss this comment, using at least three fictional tragic heroes or heroines from different literary periods.


7) Essay Topic 7
“Theatre reflects life and is an intensification of society and the human condition”.
Choose two plays which, in your opinion, succeed in achieving this. Discuss, compare and contrast how this is achieved, in terms of script, style, sense and staging.


I just wanted your thoughts on which 3 topics you would choose (we have to have 3 options) and your reasons why.
Also, it would be very helpful to hear if the topic that you have a lot of information already available to gather and use.

I have a tendency to read a lot so I love the sounds of 6 and 7, 6 more than 7 because of the unlimited literary figures that flooded through my mind as I read the question.

Personally, I would choose #4 & #5, Simply because those topics are close to my heart. I think their more interesting, and more information has to get out there regarding these two topics.
