The Golgi apparatus looks like a stack of flat pancakes, they are actualy flattened membranes. They sort proteins, and other cellular substances and package them into membrane bound structures called vesicles. The Golgi apparatus is like the warehouse that stores, sorts, and packages materails for shippment to other locations.
