A homeowner estimates that it will take him 6 days to roof his house. A professional roofer estimates that he could roof the house in 2 days. How long will it take if the homeowner helps the roofer?

The method is to calculate the rate at which work is done by each party, then add the rates together, and divide the combined rate into the total work to be done. I GUARANTEE that they will be some version of using this on your exam [it's a favorite of teachers and exam writers]

Well, the answer seem to be 2+6=8 days/2men =4 days. Which seems to be right. It would take the roofer 2 extra days if the homeowner helps, Or it would take the homeowner 2 less days since the roofer can do all of it in 2 days.
