I don't get how to do this. can somebody explain it please.

Make a table and write down some values for x.
For each x value (this can be anything 1, 2 5), put it into the equation and solve for y.
x 1 2 3
y
then solve for y
when x=1, y= 3(1) +2
= 5
so one solution would be x=3, y-5

You find a number for x and then do the equation, and y is the answer.
Solutions:
1) x=1, y=5
2) x=0, y=2
3) x=2, y=8

What I do is I graph the number 2 (not negative) on the y-axis, then if you know how to do "rise over run" then you put the 3 over 1 (the 3 that's in 3x) and then you rise 3 and run over 1 time.
I'm not sure if this is the right way but I'm almost positive.
