I have never used footnotes in the past as I have always cited in the text and put a reference list at the end but one of my classmates uses footnoting and Im sure thats why he gets better marks than me despite us using the same sources of information. Is this the correct method to use for Harvard referencing or is it individual choice??Also if you are referencing fully in the footnote then what do you put in your reference list or bibliogrpahy at the end as this has been asked for in the essay brief.

I have just completed my degree and used Harvard Referencing throughout. Once you have got the hang of it, it is a very easy way to gain marks.

Harvard does not use footnotes. If you quote an author in your work all you need to do is cite the reference in brackets next to it, or at the end of the paragraph if that is tidier. Then include the source in your bibliography.

There are lots of Harvard guides on the net. Try this one for starters:

citing in the text is just as effective as using footnotes. i would switch to footnotes if you think it will get you a better score.

citing with a footnote - you would just put the number at the bottom of the page and put the page #, author, things like that, not the whole citation. Cite in the footnote what you would cite in the text. then on your bibliography, have the corresponding number for each citation with the number you used to cite it.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
