I'm trying to get my ged and I'm stuck at finding lowest common denominators I'm trying hard but I can't seem to understand this part. I know how reduce fractions to lower terms and raise them but lowest common denominators are stumping me. What are the steps to finding 6/4+3/8?

The result you need to accomplish is to get each denominator the same while keeping each numerator a whole number (not a fraction or decimal).

In this case, the best way to do that would be to make 6/4 have a denominator of 8 since you can't divide the 3 in 3/8.

In order to do that, you have to multiply both the numerator and denominator of 6/4 by 2 resulting in 12/8. (If you multiply the top and bottom of a fraction by the same number, it will still remain the same fraction. Since 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, etc. is one, you wouldnt be changing the number at all since anything multiplied by one remains the same number)

In the end you'll end up with 12/8+3/8 which equals 15/8

find a common denominator then add. 6/4+3/8 12/8+3/8 now add. it = 15/8

You've already been given the correct answer, but if you're having problems with fractions this site should be helpful.
