Okay, so I'm a sophomore in high school, and right now, and we only have 2 months left..

I've been recommended to honors classes next year, and my current study habits are really bothering me. For example, I'll be doing one thing for homework, then....my drifts off, and the current thing I'm on takes 1 hour instead of 30 minutes to finish.

Also, the internet, and my phone are huge distractions to me. For one, while browsing, I'll start to check up things on video games or new technology or memes or etc. Then, I'll eventually, get to looking up too many unimportant things, and lose all interest in finishing my work (I finish my work, but its just such BS, that I feel ashamed of it).
My phone is a huge distraction, I will end up playing a game or something for a while, and lose track of time.

The biggest thing about it is the guilt for me, as my parents think I'm working hard, when I'm obviously not. I'm going to be in Honors (1 AP class too) next year; if I continue these habits, my GPA will be destroyed!

This had been a problem in my Freshman year, where my wandering thoughts cost me my grades. Sophomore year it got better, but only in these few weeks has it gotten really bad....

I am in real need of advice, my academics, and my future are at stake because of my bad habits.

(PS. My grades are also lackluster, just 80's and the occasional 90.)

Some people learn better as a group effort. I don't. This is what works for me:

Alone in the room. No auditory or visual distractions. I use a Bose sound-cancelling headset. Proper lighting (flickering tube fluorescent drives me nuts). Temperature and humidity optimal for you, not shivering or sleepy. Strict schedule, 10 minute break every 90 minutes works for me. Meal breaks only the necessary time to eat, then right back to work. No social interactions (door locked, phone switched off, computer either turned off or only using features needed for study or homework.

Remember that your studies are your future. More important than anything else to you at present. If your family is rightly motivated, they will understand. Present friendships and leisure activities are transitory and far less important than you presently think. Nutrition, sufficient sleep and physical exercise are the only priorities that are in the same order of magnitude as your studies at this point in your life. Also ignore certain hormonal urges, acting on them is not only a distraction but can get you into various kinds of trouble. Save that for adulthood after your studies are over.

1. Hide your phone in another room, far away from whatever room you study in. You're not allowed to get it back until you're done with your homework for the day.

2. I understand the internet thing, since so much homework these days has to be done on the computer. I'd suggest a timer, but those are easy to ignore when you're procrastinating. Honestly, try giving up most of these sites cold-turkey, and give yourself little non-internet rewards when you go 3 days, 7 days, etc. without ever going on meme sites (or any other sites that serve no purpose in your life other than distraction)

Zone out from friends and all that crap . Focus on school an don't let anything interfere . Computer only for help on studying . Chances are you'll loose all your friends after high school so don't spend so much time trying to maintain a relationship that won't last . Invest that same energy into studying and getting high grades :)
