Which where first monkeys or dinosaurs? I think dinosaurs were the first. But in the movie 'Dinosaur' there were monkeys. So which ones were first?

The movie "Dinosaur" is wrong (in a lot of ways other than the monkey thing... Actually, I think they were lemurs anyway).

Dinosaurs first evolved in the Triassic period. Before that, there were various types of reptiles and mammal-like reptiles that dominated the land. And some pretty big amphibians and insects, though the giant insects were extinct by the dinosaur age. Mammals evolved about the same time as dinosaurs did, but were mostly small rodent-like things for hundreds of millions of years.

Birds evolved from coelurosaurs in the Jurassic period, and they lived along side dinosaurs for quite a while. Monkeys didn't evolve until the Cenozoic era, after the dinosaurs went extinct. That extinction left the earth open for mammals to diversify into the many forms we see today, monkeys and humans included.

It depends on how you define 'dinosaur' and 'monkey.' Both breeds still exist today though dinosaurs are of course greatly slimmed down from their prehistoric forbears. If you mean the big Jurassic Park type monsters, then they were certainly earlier than modern day monkeys. On the other hand, the toxodon, a relatively small dinosaur, which was supposedly extinct 1,000,000 years BC, has been found in the ruins of Tiahuanaco in South America, and, even more amazingly, drawings of it on the walls of the ruins have also been found. Monkeys were certainly around in those days.

In essence, most dinosaurs preceded most monkeys, but, like most things in history, it's not that simple to give a yes or no answer!

Well the movie was wrong. The only animals with dinosaurs were reptiles, and bugs. Nothing else. Monkeys definitely not!

it was the dinosaurs it wasnt until after the impact that wiped out the dinosaurs then primitive primates started to evolve. it was not long compared to the rest of the time in the universe. if you want more information on this topic watch walking with dinosures and then walking with primates, i think that is the name of it, they were both on the discovery channel so they both should be easily to find on the discoverychannel.com
