Dissertation Topic - McDonald?

Question

I am writing my dissertation now, as this is my first dissertation.. I really don't have any idea on it. I want to write a "repackaging of corporate image - mcDonald's" as the topic, but don't have any overall direction. Should i write something moer interesting? Or change to other topics??? Pls help me on this ...

When I wrote my dissertation, I found that researching bought up more questions which naturally allowed my project to progress, and split it up fairly neatly in to three subject areas.....



Immediate directions through looking at your question,



* why does McDonalds feel the need to change image (competitor comparison...what are the others doing...if they're the only people changing their products then you need to ask why this is....some primary research - this means getting out and asking people questions about their opinions on McDonalds etc - will get you ace marks!)

* Analysis of where the money has been spent rebranding....and it's effectiveness....again more research could help you to ascertain a solid position on this.

* The key areas where change has taken place (has anything been neglected and are these changes that run to the core of the company - is it truly a commitment to more healthy eating - or is it to catch on to a food fad and make money?)



I can't be of more help as my degree definitely was not anywhere near this field...but it sounds like an interesting and worthwhile avenue to pursue :) just remember this project is going to form a substancial part of your life for the next year...so you best be interested in it!!

In writing a Dissertation, it is important to have a topic of your interest as it will definitely help you to keep your enthusiasm high. Equally important is to have a good guide. Your topic "repackaging of corporate image - McDonald's" seems to be a very good one. Make sure you get sufficient documented material on this topic. This is a very interesting topic. You could talk about the factors which have had an effect on the way that McDonald's advertise their products, e.g. introducing 'healthy options' and discuss how well this has worked as a marketing strategy by analysing the profit and loss figures for, say, the last 5-10 years. You could also talk about how, if at all, McDonald's has responded to the demand for multi-national companies to lead the way in recyclable packaging of their products. Hope this helps!!

A study of the repackaging of thier corporate image would be good. There is plenty of scope to discuss the current position with the bad press "Supersize Me" etc. and to look at the ways they could improve thier image. perhaps discuss a possible rebrand and relaunch? More high profile input into the local communities ?etc etc...Discuss two or three distinct appraoches that you feel would make a difference..but you don't have to agree with any of them...
