Alien and SeditionActs, were a series of laws passed by Congress in 1798 to silence opposition to an expected war with France. Neither France nor the United States had declared war, but French and American ships had fought many battles.

XYZ Affair was the name given to a controversial exchange of diplomatic proposals between France and the United States in 1797. Relations between the two nations were strained at the time, and the exchange included outrageous demands from France. The three French agents who made these demands became known as X, Y, and Z. The XYZ Affair led to fighting at sea between the United States and France, though war was never declared.

Jay Treaty, signed in 1794, resolved disputes that arose between the United States and Great Britain after the Revolutionary War in America ended. John Jay, chief justice of the United States, arranged the treaty in London.

Sons of Liberty was a group of patriotic societies that sprang up in the American colonies before the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). They began as secret societies but later came into the open. They fought against the Stamp Tax of 1765, opposed the importation of British goods after the passage of the Townshend Acts in 1767, and led resistance to the Tea Act of 1773. They were active from South Carolina to New Hampshire and supported the calling of the Continental Congress.

Don't know the exact leader but it said Samuel Adams somewhere.
