Our prof told us we can write about anything, which makes it all the more harder. What can you suggest? This is for an English Class, so I'd prefer researches that didn't have too much science involved (identifying molecules etc) or too subjective ones.

So far, these were the things that suddenly popped out of my mind:
1.Glutathione (i still don't know what to research about it)
2.Should there still be Beauty Contests - Do they serve any purpose in society? When in fact beauty contests can be biased based on a person's color or race.
3.Is lottery a good idea? Should it be banned? - People are relying on pure luck to get richer.
4.Adolescent Depression and Suicide.
5.Why are teenagers addicted to violent games?
6.Effects of changing English as international language to Mandarin
7.Youtube

Comments/ Suggestions are very much appreciated. You can suggest to me other topics that are kinda related to the ones I mentioned.

If you would notice the other Asian countries like China, Japan and Korea, they are using their native language in education, no English. While we Filipinos use both English and Filipino in education. Maybe we should use our native language in education as it will be more clear, more appreciated than the use of the English language. Maybe that's the other countries secret, they have better communication, they are more united because of the language they use. Maybe that's why they were able to become a better country so fast. I think we are forcing ourselves to become more Americanized, that it is actually not the solution you know. That's all :D

Oh and I remember one legend in Ateneo. There's this Philosophy class held in a auditorium to accommodate the large number of students. The Philo prof started teaching in Filipino, then a certain female student complained. The Philo prof went down the stage, walks toward the girl and shouted: PUTANG INA MO! (YOU SON OF A B*TCH). The student started crying. When the crying subsided, the Philo prof said: Mas madamdamin diba? (It's more emotional right?)

Maybe write about lottery...people are going to bet on stuff, whether it is legal or not...state governments might as well hold legit lotteries and get a piece of the action.

The pick3 "numbers" game has an interesting history...and is probably why state lotteries exist today...otherwise it would just be organized crime running numbers.

Your teacher would probably hate this topic: Should education have a monopoly on state lottery revenue? Why not at least divert some lottery revenue to help kids with cancer? Blind people. Feed & house the poor, provide vocational training. Give better tools to EMTs, cops, etc. General fund so government has emergency cash, to direct where it is needed most. When people play lottery, would be cool to be able to checkmark a box to direct where the funds go.

goodluck!

Do one on something no one else will do ---- it's almost an automatic good grade, just for attempting to be creative. How about American involvement with WWII BEFORE Pearl Harbor..? American ace fighter pilots were fighting with the Chinese against the Japanese, the Flying Tigers. An American Navy ship was actually bombed and sunk in China by the Japanese. American Military Intelligence was actively working in England with British Intelligence under the table. Armed US Merchant Marine ships all over the Atlantic. American Navy vessels were all over the Pacific, the Philippines, even sitting in Darwin Harbor, Australia Americans were manufacturing munitions (gun powder, ammo, explosives) for the British and Allies. Two New Jersey munitions factories were actually blow up by Nazi terrorists. For a country not AT war, we were certainly very busy IN war. ***EDIT*** WOW, what awesome answers - don't you love it when we all get together! There is SO much importantance involving WWII that the topics are unlimited. The 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma Army National Guard - thousands of Native American volunteers representing over 50 nations. The US Women Air Corp. The Tuskegee Airmen. The Navajo Code Talkers. The Hunt for Enigma. The countless forgotten children and teenagers of the Greek, Dutch, and other small country resistance. Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews in full sight of the Nazis. My personal favorite, the Dunkirk Evacuation. Countless topics, countless heroes.

How about a research on what is a good research topic? It would be interesting to find out how people respond to that question. You can then summarize and classify those research topics into either technology or non-technology related versus, say, their gender. You will then be able to find out if there is an association between gender and preference. You will then be able to perform a Chi-square analysis to find out if there is a significant association. It's easy to compute Chi-square. See the resource below.
