All nighter??? Help with memorizing information?

Hello
Tonight I am planning on pulling an all nighter (or somewhat of one since I hope to get at least 1-2 hours of sleep). I realize this is not healthy, but procrastination has gotten the better of me. I was wondering if any of you had managed to do this WITHOUT drinking coffee at any point at night. I wanted to drink coffee at 1 am, but my dad won't let me. He said he will only allow me to drink coffee in the morning if I absolutely need to.

I also know that cramming doesn't help memorization or retain as much information in the long run, but does anyone have any memorization tips that would work for someone who is cramming?

Thanks

break down what u need to mmrz and write and rewrite. then do again for next piece. then go back to to previous section. try to repeat both to self. then try to write both sections together. then slowly "fold" in new info, dropping previous sections as u r more famaliar with them.

What I do, which are small things but you might find that they help you are:

To write out what you need to know sort of in question format with an answer. Make the question and answer 2 different colors. The mind remembers and notices the color green better so that should probably be the answer color. Then literally try to memorize the answers. Chances are that if you make up the questions, you'll remember those and then it will be easier to remember the answers, plus rewriting your notes like that is good for memory.

Write this out and study standing up. I'm not kidding, I did it once and I can't remember anything as well if I'm cramming sitting down. The brain remembers things better if you are standing up. You might get tired after awhile but keep pacing, possible in time with each of your remembered words and you'll feel like you're getting somewhere.

Put some music on, but only softly. Do not crank it because it will become distracting, but if its pretty low, you'll find that it distracts only your subconscious and then your full conscience can focus on studying.

Teach your house plants, or your stuffies or your mom. Really it's the BEST thing to do, it's better to teach your parent or something because then they can say stupid things and you can be like "no dad, this is it.." and before you know it...you know your stuff! But stuffies will work too, just pretend you have to teach it.

Do drink stuff, but I suggest water or juice. It just keeps your fidgetyness occupied. Or, have like a bag of chocolates and every time you remember something, give yourself a chocolate.

I seriously use these techniques when I'm cramming. I can memorize like a whole sheet of notes in less than 10 minutes if I'm really focusing and this should help you.

Here's What I Do/ How I Quiz My Friends

I take out all the notes and make them into more condensed notes of necessary information I need to know and do not already have memorized. Then, rewrite them in a form of a fill in the blank with an answer at the end, then the whole thing written under. Here's an example...

The____________was singed on July 4, 1776. (DECLARATION)

The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776.

This helps you memorize it by easily being able to quiz yourself and remember the info b.c you wrote it down twice.

Then review this until you have it perfect. Change the order of it several times.

Next, go over the rest of your notes 3 times at least.

Then, if there is one, read the chapter of the book the test is on.

Then, go over WS's given out. Make sure you know everything and quiz yourself on them.

Repeat this process (accept writing the notes) until you've got everything down well.

Finally, stop for twenty minutes and read a different book, do other hw, etc. Requiz yourself on everything after this. If you get it right, review everything one more time. If wrong, go through the while process agin. Rewrite the notes, rephrase the questions.

Good luck! Remember, sleep is good, but if you can't, eat a really great breakfast. Coffee/ caffeine will tire you by the end of the hour, but heathy foods likes fruits, juice, whole bran cereal, milk will keep you energized.

Get a recorder (an MP3 player or tape recorder) and record all the information you need to know.

Then play it (with earphones or speaker) as much as you can, while you walk around, take your shower, every time you can.

However, the best time to learn is in your sleep. Set it on constant replay and turn it on before you go to bed and let it run all night.

Your brain will learn very efficiently while you sleep.

Take notes. Over and over again, write down the information you need to memorize. After you're done, quiz yourself on the content, or perhaps go over the information out load, as if you're the teacher, and you're reviewing with your class.

This usually works very well with me, expecially since I'm an abhorrent procrastinator too. Good luck. ;)
