dat's easy bro

dependent clause--couldn't be its own sentence

independent clause--could stand alone as a sentence

a. Because he wanted to write pieces that would help people tune their pianos.Bach composed The Well Tempered Clavier.

because;...dependent Bach composed....independent

B. Both Gould and Keith Jarrett have recorded Bach's Well Tempered Clavier, and both have played surprising versions of the music

A. Because he wanted to write pieces that would help people tune their pianos. = Dependent

Bach composed The Well Tempered Clavier. = Independent

B. Both Gould and Keith Jarrett have recorded Bach's Well Tempered Clavier = Independent

and both have played surprising versions of the music = Dependent

The basic info on the differences is as follows:

Independent Clause

An independent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought. An independent clause is a sentence.

Jim studied in the Sweet Shop for his chemistry quiz.

Dependent Clause

A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb but does not express a complete thought. A dependent clause cannot be a sentence. Often a dependent clause is marked by a dependent marker word.

When Jim studied in the Sweet Shop for his chemistry quiz . . . (What happened when he studied? The thought is incomplete.)

To help you better understand this for the future go to this web site. There is where I copied and pasted the info from above.

Hope this was helpful!

A. Is an independent Clause because it can stand alone with out having to finish out the sentence with more of a story and without need real punctuation. But I would suggest writing if you can fix it

Because he wanted to write pieces that would help people tune their pianos, Bach composed The Well Tempered Clavier.

B. Is a dependent Clause because it needs the extra comma and story to go along with it.

A has a dependent clause: Because he wanted to write piece that would help people tune their pianos

B is comprised of two independent clauses.

Be sure you understand what a subject and a predicate are. These two elements are the parts of a clause.

A. dependent, because the sentence is starting with the word "because", which is not a complete thought

B. independent, because the sentence has a subject and a verb, and has a complete thought
